- Has been serving as a U.S. representative since 2013, initially for Michigan’s 5th congressional district and then for the 8th district from 2023.
- Succeeded his uncle, Dale Kildee, in Congress.

- Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, and earned a B.S. in community development administration from Central Michigan University.
- Became one of the nation’s youngest elected officials at age 18 when elected to the Flint Board of Education in 1977.

- Secured federal funding for demolishing blighted homes and supported legislation to remove tax breaks for companies moving jobs overseas.
- Claimed on the House floor that Republican leaders were refusing emergency aid to Flint due to racial bias.
- Voted with President Joe Biden’s stated position 100% of the time in the 117th Congress.
- Supported the Assault Weapons Ban of 2022, abortion rights, and opposed lifting COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers.
- Voted for the Inflation Reduction Act and attributed rising inflation rates to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
- Supported prohibiting troop deployment on the southern border for enforcing immigration law and voted to impeach Donald Trump twice.
- Criticized the 60-vote majority Senate rule, introduced legislation for electric vehicle tax credits, and opposed the use of eminent domain for economic development.
- Co-launched the Congressional Freethought Caucus, supports humanist chaplains, and is a sponsor of H.R. 40 for studying and developing reparation proposals for African Americans.
- Voted in favor of intervention in Syria, signed a letter to lift tariffs on China, supported aid to Ukraine, and voted for lowering the voting age to 16.
- Has served on the Committee on Ways and Means and the Committee on the Budget.
- Was a candidate in the 2010 Michigan gubernatorial election but dropped out.
- Married to Jennifer Kildee since 1988, with three children. His brother Timothy was killed in a shooting in 2024.
- Diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in 2023 but described his prognosis as “excellent” following surgery.
