American lawyer and politician active in the late 19th century.
Served as a U.S. Representative for two non-consecutive terms.
Initially elected to fill a vacancy and later reelected.
Chaired the Committee on Manufactures during his first term and the Committee on Banking and Currency during his second term.
Unsuccessful in his bid for reelection after his first term and did not secure renomination after his second term.
Worked as Corporation Counsel for Goshen from 1909 until his death.
Participated as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention in 1892.
Married twice, first to Helen Brandreth and then to Susan Randall, with one daughter from his first marriage.
Died of pneumonia in 1915 and is buried in Slate Hill Cemetery in Goshen.
