- Born in Mansfield, Connecticut Colony.
- Attended common schools and studied law at Brown University, graduating in 1797.
- Admitted to the bar in 1800 and began practicing law in Windham, Connecticut.
- Served as probate judge of Windham County from 1818 to 1824.
- Elected to the Nineteenth and Twentieth Congresses, serving from 1825 to 1829.
- Initially affiliated with the Adams political faction and later with the Whig Party after its formation.
- Resumed law practice in Connecticut after leaving Congress.
- Died in Windham, Connecticut, and was interred in Windham Cemetery.
