  • Appointed postmaster of Rochester in 1842 and served until 1845.
  • Served twice as mayor of Rochester, first in the early 1840s and again in 1856.
  • Was a delegate to the 1856 Republican National Convention.
  • Initially elected to Congress as a Whig before the party transitioned to the Republican Party.
  • Died in Rochester, New York, and is interred in Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester.
