- Worked as a school teacher in Louisiana as a Teach For America member and later in the investment sector.
- Was active in the campaign for same-sex marriage in Rhode Island and served on the board of several organizations including Marriage Equality Rhode Island and Crossroads Rhode Island.
- Announced candidacy for Rhode Island General Treasurer in 2013, won the Democratic nomination, and was elected in November 2014.
- Launched a transparency initiative for the Employees’ Retirement System of Rhode Island and pursued class-action lawsuits against fossil fuel companies for environmental harm.
- Chaired the Financial Literacy Committee for the National Association of State Treasurers in 2016.
- Initially announced candidacy for the 2022 Rhode Island gubernatorial election but switched to run for the U.S. House of Representatives, winning the election.
- Voted against lifting COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers and against ending the COVID-19 national emergency.
- Voted against directing the removal of U.S. troops from Syria and against a ban on cluster munitions to Ukraine.
- Introduced the Biking Instruction, Knowledge, and Education (BIKE) Act for bicycle education and safety programs.
- Voted against a resolution disapproving of the District of Columbia’s plan to allow noncitizens to vote in local elections.
- Married with one child and is the son of policy advisor Ira Magaziner.
