Previously served as the 31st General Treasurer of Rhode Island from 2015 until 2023.
Graduated from Milton Academy and later from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts in history.
Received a Master of Business Administration from the Yale School of Management.
Worked as a school teacher in Louisiana as a Teach For America member and later in the investment sector.
Was active in the campaign for same-sex marriage in Rhode Island and served on the board of several organizations including Marriage Equality Rhode Island and Crossroads Rhode Island.
Announced candidacy for Rhode Island General Treasurer in 2013, won the Democratic nomination, and was elected in November 2014.
Launched a transparency initiative for the Employees’ Retirement System of Rhode Island and pursued class-action lawsuits against fossil fuel companies for environmental harm.
Chaired the Financial Literacy Committee for the National Association of State Treasurers in 2016.
Initially announced candidacy for the 2022 Rhode Island gubernatorial election but switched to run for the U.S. House of Representatives, winning the election.
Voted against lifting COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers and against ending the COVID-19 national emergency.
Voted against directing the removal of U.S. troops from Syria and against a ban on cluster munitions to Ukraine.
Introduced the Biking Instruction, Knowledge, and Education (BIKE) Act for bicycle education and safety programs.
Voted against a resolution disapproving of the District of Columbia’s plan to allow noncitizens to vote in local elections.
Married with one child and is the son of policy advisor Ira Magaziner.
