  • Practiced law in San Francisco, California, before moving to Walla Walla, Washington.
  • Served as city attorney of Walla Walla.
  • Presided over the Republican Territorial convention at Vancouver in 1874.
  • Was an advocate of bigotry toward Chinese immigrants.
  • After his congressional service, resumed practicing law and served as judge of the superior court of Walla Walla from 1896 to 1913.
  • Died in Walla Walla, Washington, and was interred in Blue Mountain Cemetery.
