- Establishes the Office of Children’s Health Protection within the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
- The Office will be headed by a director appointed by the EPA Administrator, considering recommendations from the Children’s Health Protection Advisory Committee.
- The Director will serve as Co-Chair of the President’s Task Force on Environmental Health Risks and Safety Risks to Children.
- The Office’s duties include:
- Identifying and assessing environmental health and safety risks affecting infants, children, and adolescents.
- Ensuring federal policies address these disproportionate risks, including environmental justice concerns.
- Coordinating federal research and programs to mitigate these risks.
- Engaging in activities to reduce negative environmental impacts on children, promote safe chemical management, and enhance community health programs.
- Increasing environmental health literacy among healthcare providers.
- Evaluating trends in environmental contaminants related to childhood diseases.
- Developing resources for local educational agencies to improve school environmental health programs.
- Authorizes $7,842,000 for fiscal year 2025 and subsequent years for the Office’s operations.
- Establishes the Children’s Health Protection Advisory Committee to advise the EPA on children’s health-related programs and regulations.
- The Advisory Committee will be permanent and subject to the Federal Advisory Committee Act.
- Authorizes $13,200,000 for each fiscal year from 2025 to 2029 to support the Act’s implementation.
