Directs the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution to conduct a feasibility study for establishing a Juneteenth Museum on Galveston Island, Texas.
The museum will focus on the historical significance of Juneteenth Independence Day, celebrated on June 19, 1865.
The study must involve consultations with elected officials from Galveston County, the State of Texas, and local community leaders.
Key components of the study include:
Assessing the costs of construction and operation of the museum.
Evaluating the possibility of integrating the museum with the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Identifying potential sites for the museum on Galveston Island.
Considering any additional relevant matters as determined by the Secretary.
The study must be completed within two years of the enactment of the legislation.
A report detailing the study’s findings must be submitted to specific congressional committees within 30 days of completion.
