Legislation Details
- Establishes the Ocmulgee Mounds National Park and Preserve in Georgia.
- Redesignates Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park as Ocmulgee Mounds National Park.
- Allows the Secretary of the Interior to acquire land for the National Park and Preserve.
- Prohibits the use of eminent domain for acquiring land.
- Establishes an Ocmulgee Mounds National Preserve once sufficient land has been acquired.
- Requires the Secretary to file maps and legal descriptions of the park and preserve.
- Directs the administration of the park and preserve as a single unit of the National Park System.
- Mandates co-management of the park and preserve with the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.
- Allows hunting in the preserve and fishing in both the park and preserve under federal and state laws.
- Establishes policies for hiring members of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation for positions at the park and preserve.
- Maintains the administration of the Bond Swamp National Wildlife Refuge separately but allows for cultural interpretation activities in consultation with the Tribe.
- Permits traditional ceremonies and subsistence activities by the Tribe within the park and preserve.
- Specifies that military activities, including low-level overflights and military training, are not precluded by the Act.
- Creates an advisory council to assist with the management plan for the park and preserve, including representation from the Tribe, state, and federal agencies.
- Transfers approximately 126 acres of land owned by the Tribe within the park and preserve into trust for the benefit of the Tribe.
- Authorizes necessary appropriations to implement the Act.
