Referred to the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs.
This bill would require the VA to cover infertility treatment and standard fertility preservation for eligible veterans and their partners, including in vitro fertilization (IVF). IVF could be covered for up to three completed cycles that lead to a live birth, or up to 10 attempted cycles, whichever comes first, and donated gametes (sperm or eggs) or embryos may be used. Consent is required from the patient, the veteran (if the patient is the veteran’s partner), and any donor. State law decides what happens to stored eggs, sperm, and embryos (such as ownership and future use). The VA would also treat a veteran’s partner like a veteran for travel expense reimbursement for this care. This bill does not add new maternity care beyond what current law already requires.
