- American politician and merchant from Massachusetts.
- Served as a United States Congressman from 1843 to 1849.
- Held various local government positions, including town clerk and town treasurer.
- Member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1835-1837, 1843) and the Massachusetts Senate (1840-1842).
- Co-founder and director of the Boston & Portland Railway, which later became the Boston & Maine Railroad.
- Married Ester West in 1812 and had two children.
- Returned to mercantile activities after his congressional term and served as postmaster in Andover until his death.
