- Born in Charlton, New York, and graduated from Union College in 1819.
- Studied law and was admitted to the bar, beginning his legal practice in Ballston Spa, New York.
- Served as one of the first directors of the Ballston Spa State Bank, established in 1830.
- Elected as a Whig to the Twenty-sixth Congress, serving from March 4, 1839, until his death.
- Died on June 14, 1840, while still in office.
- Interred at the Ballston Spa Cemetery Association.
