Born in 1767 in the Province of New York.

Held various local government positions, including town clerk, supervisor, assessor, and commissioner of schools.

Elected to the New York State Assembly and later to the U.S. House of Representatives to fill a vacancy.
Served in the U.S. House from December 1815 to March 1817.
Married twice, first to Annar Allen and later to Anna Waterman, with a total of five children.
Died in 1832 at the age of 64 and is buried in Ausable Chasm Cemetery.
