Death
- Served as a United States Representative from Georgia for 20 years, from 1895 to 1915.
- Member of the Democratic Party.
- Graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Georgia in 1870.
- Studied law at the University of Virginia and graduated from the UGA School of Law in 1872.
- Began practicing law in Monticello, Georgia, after being admitted to the state bar.
- Held various legal and political positions, including solicitor general for the Macon judicial circuit and city attorney of Macon.
- Served in the Georgia State House of Representatives from 1882 to 1885 and in the Georgia Senate in 1888 and 1889.
- Appointed as a Macon circuit superior court judge in 1892 before resigning to run for Congress.
- Returned to Macon after congressional service to practice law and engage in banking.
- Died in 1938 and was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia.
