  • Declined to run for re-election in 1896 and returned to legal practice.
  • Ran unsuccessfully for mayor of New Orleans in 1896 and 1904.
  • Served on the supreme court board of examiners for admission to the bar from 1898 to 1900.
  • Died in New Orleans in 1918 and was buried in Metairie Cemetery.
