- Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for one term from 1895 to 1897.
- Declined to run for re-election in 1896 and returned to legal practice.
- Ran unsuccessfully for mayor of New Orleans in 1896 and 1904.
- Served on the supreme court board of examiners for admission to the bar from 1898 to 1900.
- Died in New Orleans in 1918 and was buried in Metairie Cemetery.
