Served as a U.S. Representative for four consecutive terms from 1929 to 1937 and was elected for a fifth term in 1938, but passed away before completing it.
Married to Frances P. Bolton, who later succeeded him in Congress, making them the first mother and son to serve simultaneously in that body.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, and educated at local public schools, University School, and Harvard University.
Worked as a business industrialist in the steel industry before entering politics.
Served in the Ohio National Guard and was commissioned as a captain during World War I, eventually rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Held various political positions, including member of the Lyndhurst Village Council and the Ohio State Senate, where he served as president pro tempore.
Participated as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in 1928.
Chaired the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee during the mid-1930s.
Died in Cleveland and was interred in Lake View Cemetery, alongside family members.
