Death
- Served as a United States Representative from Pennsylvania.
- Born in Providence, Rhode Island, and later moved to New York State with his family.
- Relocated to Milton, Pennsylvania, in 1816, where he pursued and commenced a career in law after being admitted to the bar in 1824.
- Moved to Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1826, continuing his legal practice and serving in various legal roles including attorney for Erie and prosecuting attorney for Erie County.
- Held the position of deputy attorney general for Pennsylvania in the mid-1830s.
- Served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the Pennsylvania State Senate during the 1830s and 1840s.
- Elected to the Thirty-sixth and Thirty-seventh Congresses as a Republican but did not seek reelection in 1862.
- Resumed his legal practice after his congressional service and remained in Erie until his death.
- Interred in Erie Cemetery following his death in 1887.
