Born in Connecticut and later moved to New York, where he became involved in local politics and community development.
Worked as a physician and engaged in agricultural pursuits throughout his life.
Held various political positions, including:
- Member of the New York State Assembly for Tioga County multiple times.
- First Judge of the Tioga County Court.
- Member of the New York State Senate.
- New York State Treasurer on two occasions.
- U.S. Representative for New York’s 25th congressional district.
Elected as an Anti-Mason to the U.S. Congress and later ran as a Whig candidate for Lieutenant Governor of New York.
Married Nancy Coryell and had three children.
Built the first frame house in Nichols, New York, which later became a restaurant.
Died in 1865 and was buried in Ashbury Cemetery.
