Served as a U.S. Representative for New York from 1825 to 1827.
Born in Winchester, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, and later moved to Catskill, Greene County, New York.
Held the position of Town Clerk of Winchester in 1811 and was a Justice of the Peace in 1817.
Married Susan Haight Van Voorhis in 1817, with whom he had five children.
Was Chairman of the Catskill Tanners’ Association in 1825.
Elected as a Jacksonian to the 19th United States Congress.
After his term in Congress, he resumed his tanning business.
Served as President of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Catskill from 1828 until his death.
Died in Catskill, Greene County, New York, and was interred at the Catskill Village Cemetery.
