  • Served as a U.S. Representative from Indiana from 1908 to 1919.
  • Attended common schools, Amboy Academy, and Wabash Normal Training School.
  • Worked as a teacher, farmer, surveyor, newspaper publisher, and businessman.
  • Held positions as director of the United States Bank Trust Co. and the Indiana State Prison.
  • Elected as a Democrat to fill a vacancy in the Sixtieth Congress and was reelected for four consecutive terms.
  • Unsuccessful in seeking reelection to the Sixty-sixth Congress in 1918.
  • Later worked as a lecturer.
  • Died in 1934 and was interred in a mausoleum in Rochester, Indiana.
