Death
- Served as a United States Representative from Nevada from 1889 to 1893.
- Enlisted as a private in the 8th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War, where he was wounded and present at the surrender of the Confederate Army.
- Transitioned from farming to business, specifically in copper sulfate production, after moving to Nevada.
- Studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1880, establishing a legal practice.
- Held the position of district attorney for Ormsby County from 1880 to 1882.
- Advocated for bimetallism in U.S. currency during his time in Congress.
- After leaving Congress, worked as an editor for the National Bimetallist magazine and later served as a state tax examiner and chairman of the state railroad commission.
- Attempted to run for Congress as a Democratic candidate shortly before his death in 1918.
- Died from a heart attack while campaigning in Winnemucca, Nevada.
