Obtained a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Georgia School of Law and practiced law in Columbus, Georgia.
Served one term in the Georgia House of Representatives before his tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Chose not to run for re-election in 1983, ending his political career.
Died at the age of 88.
