Death

Born in Fabius, New York, and later became a prominent figure in Syracuse.
Initially worked in bookkeeping and accounting before moving into banking in 1880.
Diversified his career into construction, completing numerous railroads and public works projects.
Held the position of President for a company that published the Syracuse Post and owned a hotel.
Served as the mayor of Syracuse, New York, in 1877 and 1878, during which he supported St. Joseph’s Hospital with a committee and a significant bequest.
Elected as a U.S. Representative for New York, serving multiple terms between 1887 and 1899 across two different districts.
Chose not to seek renomination in 1894 and 1898, eventually retiring to Syracuse.
At the time of his death in 1904, he was considered Syracuse’s wealthiest citizen, with an estimated wealth equivalent to $330 million in 2022 dollars.
