  • Participated in the first constitutional convention of Wisconsin in 1846.
  • Elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly multiple times, initially as a Whig and later as a Republican and on the National Union ticket.
  • Established a law partnership before being elected to Congress.
  • Did not seek renomination after his congressional term.
  • Died from peritonitis and was buried in Hillside Cemetery.
