After not seeking renomination, engaged in banking, insurance business, and served as vice president of the Catskill Mountain Railway Co.
Served as a trustee of the village of Catskill and was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1888
Ran unsuccessfully for election to the Fifty-fifth Congress in 1896
Died in Catskill, Greene County, New York, and is interred at Village Cemetery in Catskill
