Death
- Attended common schools and Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.
- Graduated from law school at Saint Louis University in 1843.
- Moved to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1839 and practiced law after graduation.
- Served four terms in the Missouri House of Representatives starting in 1852.
- Was involved with the St. Louis Agricultural Society, organizing its exhibitions.
- Elected as a U.S. Representative from Missouri, serving initially from March 4, 1859, to June 8, 1860, after defeating incumbent Francis P. Blair, Jr., but was later declared not entitled to the seat due to election irregularities.
- Returned to Congress in a special election to fill the vacancy caused by Blair’s resignation, serving from December 3, 1860, to March 4, 1861.
- Lost to Blair in the general election for a seat in the 37th Congress.
- Moved to New York City after his political career and engaged in various occupations.
- Died in New York City on November 2, 1903, and was interred in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
