Attended public schools and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1932, followed by its law school in 1936.
Admitted to the bar in 1936 and began practicing law in Cuero, Texas.
Served in the Texas State House of Representatives from 1937 to 1947.
Was president of a company operating compresses in various Texas cities.
Served as a private in the United States Army during World War II from May 1944 to March 1945.
Member of the Texas Senate from 1947 to 1954 and was a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions of 1948 and 1952.
Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, serving from January 3, 1955, to January 3, 1957, and did not sign the 1956 Southern Manifesto opposing desegregation of public schools.
Unsuccessful in seeking renomination in 1956.
Continued his career as a lawyer, rancher, and farmer in Cuero, Texas, after leaving political office.
Died on January 24, 1963, and was interred in Hillside Cemetery.
