  • Born in Georgia and attended common schools before graduating from Emory College in 1853.
  • Studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1856, beginning his legal practice in Newnan, Georgia.
  • Participated in the state constitutional conventions of 1867-1868.
  • Served as solicitor general of the Tallapoosa circuit from 1867 to 1868.
  • Held the position of judge of the superior court for the same circuit from 1868 to 1871.
  • Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for the Forty-second Congress, serving from 1871 to 1873.
  • Ran unsuccessfully for reelection in 1872.
  • Resumed legal practice in Atlanta after his congressional term.
  • Served as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1876.
  • Became president of the Atlanta & West Point Railroad in 1876.
  • Passed away in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1898 and was buried in Westview Cemetery.
