Practiced law after graduating from Cincinnati Law School in 1880.
Held the position of prosecuting attorney for the eleventh judicial circuit from 1884 to 1890.
Elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-second and Fifty-third Congresses.
Was unsuccessful in his bid for reelection in 1894.
Served as a judge of the circuit court for Pike and Dubois Counties from 1895 until his death.
Participated as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention in 1900.
Died in Jasper, Indiana, and was interred in Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg, Indiana.
