American politician who served as a U.S. Representative.
Graduated from Yale College in 1820.
Worked as a teacher before studying law.
Admitted to the bar in 1823 and began practicing law in Ellington, Connecticut.
Served in the Connecticut State House of Representatives from 1832 to 1838 and was a state senator in 1834.
Elected to the 26th and 27th United States Congress, serving from 1839 to 1843.
Held the position of prosecuting attorney for Tolland County from 1849 until 1867.
Married Flavia Feild Colton and had three daughters.
Mentored future Supreme Court Justice Henry Billings Brown.
Died in 1870 and is buried in Ellington Center Cemetery.
