Death
- Served as a U.S. Representative from Kansas for four consecutive terms from 1899 to 1907.
- Engaged in various business ventures, including mercantile pursuits, grain shipping, banking, and manufacturing of flour, paper, and barbed wire.
- Held the position of mayor of Lawrence, Kansas, from 1881 to 1885.
- Elected to the Kansas House of Representatives in 1887 and served in the Kansas State Senate in 1895.
- Did not seek renomination for Congress in 1906 and continued to focus on banking and manufacturing until his death.
- Interred at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, Kansas.
