Death

  • Was a businessman before entering politics, particularly involved in the rubber goods trade.
  • Founded and served as president of the Apsley Rubber Company, which later became the Firestone-Apsley Rubber Company.
  • Held the position of president of the Hudson Board of Trade and was a director of the Hudson National Bank.
  • Married Laura Marguerite Remington in 1873 and later, after her death, married Abigail Fobes Aldrich Black in 1915.
  • Served as a U.S. Representative for Massachusetts, elected as a Republican, from 1893 to 1897.
  • Chaired the Committee on Manufactures during the Fifty-fourth Congress and served two terms as vice chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
  • Declined to run for renomination in 1896 to resume his business pursuits.
  • Died in Colón, Panama, in 1925 and was buried in Forestvale Cemetery in Hudson, Massachusetts.
