American lawyer and politician active in the mid-19th century.
Graduated from Amherst College in 1837.
Moved to Indiana in 1837 and began practicing law in 1839.
Served as U.S. District Attorney for Indiana, appointed by President Polk.
Participated in a commission to codify Indiana’s laws in 1852.
Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a member of the Indiana People’s Party for one term (1855-1857).
Did not seek renomination after his term in Congress.
Later affiliated with the Republican Party in 1860.
Continued to practice law in Indianapolis until his death in 1880.
