- Served as a U.S. representative for Pennsylvania's 4th congressional district
- Previously a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania General Assembly, representing the 153rd district in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives
- Youngest of seven children, born in Glenside, Pennsylvania
- Graduated magna cum laude from La Salle University and earned a Juris Doctor at Widener University Delaware Law School
- Studied politics and public service at the Fels Institute of Government, University of Pennsylvania
- Practiced law in the Philadelphia area and served as executive director of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers
- Opened a small law practice in Glenside and served as in-house counsel for her husband's bicycle business

- Prioritized social issues such as addiction, equal rights, healthcare access, ethics, criminal justice reform, and gun violence in the State House
- Co-founded the gun violence prevention caucus, PA SAFE Caucus, after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting
- Appointed to the Governor's Commission for Women in 2015
- Elected chair of the Southeast Delegation of the Pennsylvania House Democrats in 2017
- Served on several committees, including Appropriations, Judiciary, Policy, Urban Affairs, State Government, and Finance
- Emphasized the importance of education funding and public school support
- Ran for Congress in 2018 after a significant redistricting change in Pennsylvania, won the election, and has been re-elected since
- Named an impeachment manager for the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump in 2021
- Serves on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs
- Member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues, and New Democrat Coalition
- Supported Israel following the 2023 Hamas attack
- Voted with President Joe Biden's stated position 100% of the time in the 117th Congress
- Lives in Lower Merion Township with her husband, Patrick "P.J." Cunnane, and has three grown sons and three grandchildren
