  • Served as a U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 6th District across two non-consecutive terms (1877-1881, 1887-1891).
  • Appointed consul general to Berlin from 1881 to 1885.
  • Held the position of city attorney in Pontiac and served as a circuit court commissioner for Oakland County.
  • Elected to the Michigan State Senate for the 20th District (1873-1874).
  • Participated as a delegate at the 1896 Republican National Convention.
  • Appointed to the United States Civil Service Commission by President McKinley in 1898, serving until his death.
  • Practiced law in Pontiac after declining renomination for Congress in 1890.
  • Interred at Oak Hill Cemetery in Pontiac, Michigan.
