Completed academic studies and graduated from Amherst College in 1832.
Studied law at Cambridge Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1836.
Commenced law practice in Clinton, Connecticut, before moving to New London, Connecticut in 1841 to engage in manufacturing tools, hardware, and kitchen utensils.
Served in the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1846 and 1847.
Served in the Connecticut Senate in 1850.
Elected to the Thirty-third Congress as a Democrat, serving from March 4, 1853, to March 3, 1855.
Did not seek renomination in 1854, returning to his manufacturing and banking pursuits.
Died in New London, Connecticut in 1891 and was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
