Served as a U.S. Representative from Indiana for one term (1849-1851).
Born in Fairfax, Virginia, and later moved to Salem, Indiana, where he engaged in agricultural pursuits.
Was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives from 1838 to 1840.
Moved to Floyd County, Indiana, in 1835 and resumed agricultural activities.
Elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-first Congress.
Voted in favor of the Fugitive Slave Act during his term in Congress.
Unsuccessful in his bid for reelection in 1850.
After his political career, he moved to Keokuk, Iowa, in 1853 and engaged in mercantile pursuits.
Moved again in 1856 to Boonville, Missouri, continuing his mercantile pursuits.
Settled in Central City, Colorado, in 1860, where he engaged in the hotel business and became interested in mining.
Died in Central City, Colorado, in 1863 and was interred there.
