  • Served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1853 to 1855 as a member of the Whig Party.

  • Returned to agricultural work after his congressional service.
  • Served in the Tennessee Senate in 1871 and 1872.
  • Married Martha Patsy Laird and had nine children.
  • Died in 1887 at the age of 82 and is buried in McLaurine Cemetery, Tennessee.
