Born and raised on a farm in Missouri.
Graduated from North Missouri Normal School (now Truman State University) in 1902.
Initially worked as a teacher and superintendent in rural northeast Missouri schools.
Moved to St. Louis in 1904 for a job with the internal revenue office.
Married Myra Gertrude Mills on Christmas Eve, 1904.
Began a career as a lumberman in 1905, eventually establishing the Arnold Lumber Company in Kirksville in 1908.
Served as a U.S. Representative for three terms from 1943 to 1949.
Was a Republican during his political career.
Unsuccessful in reelection bids in 1948, 1950, and 1952.
Co-founded North Missouri Broadcasting Company, which built and operated radio stations.
Died in Kirksville, Missouri, and was buried there in 1961.
