  • Elected as an Independent Democrat
  • Appointed as a New York City Police Commissioner in 1870, served until 1873
  • Worked in the office of the Collector of the Port of New York after the police board was abolished
  • Died in 1881 and is interred at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, New York
