Served as a United States Representative from Texas for multiple terms between 1917 and 1937.
Educated in public schools before graduating from the law department of the University of Texas at Austin in 1897.
Practiced law in Cleburne and Albany, Texas, before being elected judge of the 42nd Judicial District of Texas in 1908, a position he was reelected to in 1912.
Elected to the Sixty-fifth and to the five succeeding Congresses, serving from March 4, 1917, to March 3, 1929, and then again from May 20, 1930, to January 3, 1937.
Was unanimously censured by the House of Representatives on October 27, 1921, for “abuse of leave to print” after inserting a letter with offensive language into the Congressional Record.
Despite the censure, he was re-elected to the House in 1922, 1924, and 1926, and again in 1930 after a brief hiatus, serving until 1937.
Engaged in the practice of law in Washington, D.C., for a year after leaving Congress, then returned to Albany, Texas, to continue practicing law and raising Hereford cattle.
Died in Albany, Texas, in 1957 and is interred there.
Had a notable sibling, Annie Webb Blanton, who was a two-term Texas state superintendent of public instruction and a former president of the Texas State Teachers Association.
