- Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1752.
- Served as a lieutenant and later captain in the American Revolutionary War under General Anthony Wayne.
- Promoted to brevet major and later appointed as a general by Governor Thomas Mifflin in 1796.
- Engaged in business as a lumber dealer in Columbia, Pennsylvania.
- Organized member of the Society of the Cincinnati, a hereditary society of military officers.
- Served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1794 to 1796.
- Elected as a Federalist to the Seventh Congress, serving from 1801 to 1803.
- Did not win reelection for the Eighth Congress in 1802.
- Died in Columbia, Pennsylvania, in 1822 and is buried in Mount Bethel Cemetery.
