  • Served as a U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania’s 18th congressional district from 1869 to 1871.
  • Elected as a Republican to the Forty-first Congress.
  • Previously served in the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives in 1860 and 1861.
  • Studied law and practiced as an attorney in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and later in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia.
  • Appointed as the United States Commissioner of Railroads by President Chester A. Arthur, serving from 1882 to 1885.
  • Involved in local civic activities, including organizing the Williamsport Library Association and establishing the Williamsport water company.
  • Retired from active business pursuits in 1898 and later moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where he passed away in 1919.
