Death
- Served as a U.S. Congressman from Ohio from 1951 to 1971.
- Elected as a Republican and participated in eight consecutive Congresses.

- Voted in favor of significant civil rights legislation, including the Civil Rights Acts of 1957, 1960, 1964, and 1968, as well as the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

- A World War II veteran who served as a private in the U.S. Army.
- Worked in the heating equipment industry prior to his political career, eventually becoming president of his own company.
- Passed away in 2000 and is interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
