- Born in Hinsdale, New Hampshire, and attended common schools.
- Moved to Penn Yan, New York, in 1813 and engaged in mercantile activities, owning multiple stores.
- Appointed as the first county treasurer of Yates County in 1823.
- Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as an Anti-Masonic candidate, serving from March 4, 1831, to March 3, 1833.
- After his congressional term, he returned to mercantile pursuits and also worked as a hotel keeper.
- Died on October 20, 1838, in Penn Yan, New York, and is buried at City Hill Cemetery.
