Death
- Attended Kent Academy and spent two years at Brown University before engaging in mercantile pursuits.
- Served as a Major in the Rhode Island Militia during the Dorr Rebellion.
- Held the position of town clerk and was a member of the town council in Warwick.
- Served in the Rhode Island House of Representatives in 1841 and 1851, and in the Rhode Island Senate in 1848 and 1853.
- Elected as a U.S. Representative for Rhode Island, serving from 1857 to 1861.
- Served as chairman of the Committee on Expenditures on Public Buildings during the Thirty-sixth Congress.
- Was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to Congress in 1860.
- Appointed collector of internal revenue for Rhode Island’s second district in 1862, serving until 1871.
- Served as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1872.
- Worked in the money-order division of the Providence post office for several years.
- Died in Providence, Rhode Island, and was interred in Brayton Cemetery, Apponaug, Rhode Island.
