This bill directs the U.S. Treasury to study how exposed the United States is to China’s financial system and what risks that may bring. Within one year of becoming law, Treasury must report on: major risks in China’s financial sector and how they could affect the U.S. and the world; what steps the U.S. is taking to protect financial stability; how transparent and reliable China’s economic data are; and what more the U.S. and international partners should do to monitor and reduce these risks and protect U.S. interests. The report must be unclassified (with an optional classified annex), published on the Treasury website within a year, and shared with key congressional committees and U.S. representatives at relevant international organizations.
