This bill would cancel an EPA rule from March 2024 that updated the national health-based air standards for fine particle pollution (soot). By nullifying that rule, the newer particulate matter limits would not apply, and the earlier standards would stay in place instead .
In plain terms, it stops the EPA’s 2024 changes to how clean the air must be regarding tiny particles that can harm lungs and hearts. It says the EPA’s final rule titled “Reconsideration of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for Particulate Matter” shall have no force or effect. The 2024 rule had revised the primary (health-based) standards for particulate matter under the Clean Air Act.
