This bill narrows how the federal religious freedom law can be used. It says you can’t use a religious claim to get around laws that protect other people. That includes civil rights and equal opportunity rules; worker pay, benefits, leave, and basic labor protections; laws against child labor and abuse; and access to, information about, referral for, or coverage of health care. It also covers services promised under government-funded contracts or grants, and it bars using religious claims to deny someone full and equal use of government services or benefits.
It also makes clear that this religious freedom law can only be used in court when the government is a party to the case. It cannot be used in lawsuits between private people or businesses.
