This bill would stop the federal trucking safety agency from making a rule that forces commercial vehicles to use speed limiters. In plain terms, it blocks a nationwide requirement to cap the top speed of big trucks and other commercial vehicles . A “commercial motor vehicle” includes vehicles in interstate commerce that weigh 10,001 pounds or more, carry 9 or more passengers for pay, carry 16 or more passengers not for pay, or haul certain hazardous materials .
What this means for everyday life: truck drivers and trucking companies would not have to install or set speed-limiting devices because of a new federal rule. States and companies could still set their own policies, but the federal agency could not require a maximum speed limiter on these vehicles .
